Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his future after another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win naturally but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented recurring shortcomings from his squad in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase like this with results this poor.”
Jones stated, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we will always fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to where it needs to be, show everyone again the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
