Police mentioned they were notified by a resident who discovered a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Police state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then located many other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state preliminary tests indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.

"Currently there is no lead as to its source; officials are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.

Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.

A high-ranking official said the vandalism left him without words and required to be resolved quickly.

"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a assailant targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
